Food Diet for Gout Patients

By arlen arron at 2011-01-20 04:47:03
Gout is a form of arthritis caused by high levels of uric acid in the body which settles into and harms the joints. While, there are many causes and treatments of gout, there have been many studies linking foods high in protein and purines as one of the causes of gout and a potential cause of worsening existing symptoms of gout patients.

Gout is characterized as the most painful type of arthritics. It is often associated with rheumatoid arthritis in that it attacks the joints of the body. Because the disease is the result of the build- up of uric acid in the bloodstream, it is important that victims know that there is a strict diet for gout patients. This diet will demonstrate which foods to avoid as they increase uric acid production.

Purines aren't all bad! They are natural substances found in nearly all foods, and all your body's cells. Purines are a part of the chemical composition of our genes and are components of our genetic material and the genetic material of all plants and animals. The problem is when they are broken down within the body. This leads to uric acid!

Gout is a sever e and painful disease. The cause of the disease is the accumulation of the uric acid in the body. Mostly our body gets rid of the uric acid through the system. But when there is excess accumulation of the uric acid the uric acid crystals start to be formed and deposited in the joints, tendons and in the surrounded tissues causing the acute pain of gout.

In normal condition these generally dissolve in the blood. The kidneys then processed them and the body gets rid of the uric acid through the urine. But problems can start if the kidneys do not function properly. Problems can be in the consumption of high purine foods as well. If anyone takes purine rich foods then the uric acid of the body cannot be processed by the kidneys because that becomes too much for the kidneys.

Once the acute symptoms subside the patient can be advised to start on an all fruit diet for gout the next 3-4 days. He should have 3 meals a day consisting of juicy fruits like oranges, apples, pineapple, grapes, pears etc. After the fruit diet the patient can start on the following diet for gout.

Diet for gout should comprise of low purine foods like low fat cheese, gelatin, and moderate intake of sugar, fruit juices, coffee, tea, vegetables without meal extracts, breads, low fiber cereals, refined grains, nuts, peanut butter and other vegetables that are not high in purine.

You need not worry now if you are suffering from gout, as it is no longer a dreaded disease where you would not be able to eat properly, and your craving for your favorite food would not be satisfied. Gout is a very agonizing kind of arthritis, and around five percent of the total cases of arthritis is attributed to gout.

Gout is a form of arthritis caused by high levels of purines in the body that crystallize and settle into the smaller joints of the hands and feet. The purines come mostly from foods high in protein and most of the foods that cause gout are from seafood and animals. If you are predisposed to gout or other arthritis conditions then you need to take the time to find out what diet for gout is recommended to off-set symptoms and bring you relief.

Foods such as anchovies, sardines, meat extracts, gravy and high protein foods should be avoided at all cost. Every single seafood type are associated in increasing risk of gout and should not be eaten. It's advisable to get low purine protein food such as tofu and eggs. Alcohol intake should be stopped until the gout is cured. If you are a smoker, you should also quit during the time of having gout.
