When people witness their pets going through an epileptic seizure, it's hard knowing not knowing what you can do to help or even understanding the causes for it. Epilepsy in dogs is fairly common amongst dogs in general, especially within certain breeds, but by understanding its causes, symptoms and so forth, you can help your pet and yourself manage them better.

Epilepsy is a condition of the nervous system that has the ability to stimulate an abnormal amount of electricity activity that will come about within a person's brain. This health condition has the power to be caused by tumors, an infection in the brain, or by a certain amount of brain damage from head trauma. Though a good deal research has been done there are several cases in which the cause is not known.

Epilepsy is considered as group of interconnected disorders which are characterized with a tendency of recurrence seizures. There are distinct kinds of epilepsy as well as seizures. The drugs of epilepsy are given for controlling seizures and sometimes when the treatments are not effective then surgery is required.

Not every cause of epilepsy is known to humans, but many probable factors have been identified. These factors include brian damage, head trauma, high fever, bacterial encephalitis, intoxication, acute disturbances of metabolism, brain tumor, and other penetrating wounds to the head. The largest cause of epilepsy, however, is hereditary or genetic.

Among causes believed to be the source of seizures: congenital disorders, blood sugar too high or too low, vascular, kidney and liver disorders, brain tumors (benign or malignant) trauma/injury, fever, canine distemper, thyroid disease, allergies, medications, poisoning, and infections (bacterial, viral and fungus). Nursing mothers low in calcium may also be vulnerable.

Celiac disease is caused by a reaction to gliadin, a prolamin or gluten protein found in wheat, and similar proteins found in the crops such as barley and rye. When the body is exposed to gliadin, and certain other prolamins, the enzyme tissue transglutaminase modifies the protein. The immune system then attacks the small-intestine tissue, causing an inflammatory reaction, which leads to atrophy or shortening of the villi lining the small intestine. This interferes with the absorption of nutrients, by the body via the intestinal villi.

Since the concept of matching multiple sclerosis symptoms and pain is still relatively new, very little research has been done. The only thing that researchers concentrated on for years was a better way to diagnose the disease and searching for a cure. Fortunately they have managed to improve testing and diagnosis, but they have not had much success in finding a cure. However, the search for a cure is still very much an ongoing process with new drugs coming on the market.

Temporal lobe seizures commonly result from damage to specific areas in the temporal lobe of the brain. This damage includes scarring, called mesial temporal sclerosis. The seizures associated with TLE consist of simple partial seizures without loss of awareness (with or without aura) and complex partial seizures.

Seizures are the most common symptoms. Besides that the mood swings and the behavior changes follow. You will see that the dog will start to hide himself from the world, drool and also vomit. He can even lose control over his bladder. Some dogs even lose consciousness and have pretty violent muscle contractions.

Every case of cerebral palsy manifests trouble with skeletal and muscular development. This alters muscle strength and coordination. There are often skeletal deformities that make normal movement impossible. This typically involves spasms, inability to balance oneself, involuntary movements and facial gestures and many other problems.

The physical characteristics related to Down syndrome can vary from child to another. While some may have acute symptoms, others may experience mild symptoms. Most of the children with Down syndrome will have broad facial profile, a short neck, a broad forehead, an upward slant to the eye.

Angelman Syndrome is a genetic disorder caused by a fault in chromosome 15. There are many ways to treat the disorder but unfortunately, there are no proven methods to cure it. However, researchers are continuing to search for ways to permanently cure the disease. Angelman Syndrome, sometimes called AS for short was once known as 'happy puppet' because of the patient's sunny outlook and jerky movements.
